The humanitarian sector is going through a deep crisis, marked by a drastic and lasting decline in funding while humanitarian needs are reaching unprecedented levels. Like many NGOs, Action contre la Faim France has had to adapt its model: it has undertaken a profound transformation of its organisation, to which its teams have contributed extensively. Entering a new phase and drawing on professional, committed and supportive teams, the association is looking for a leader who will commit for the long term to consolidate trust, complete the transformation and strengthen collective momentum.

It is in this context that we are looking for our next General Director.

Your role and responsibilities

Reporting to the President, you lead the executive of Action contre la Faim France and chair the Executive Committee (COMEX). This management team currently brings together the Operations, Expertise and Advocacy, Communication and Development, Administration and Finance, Human Resources, Logistics, Information Systems, and Audit, Risk and Compliance departments, as well as the Strategy and Transformation Unit. You are supported by advisors and an executive assistant. This organisation is set to evolve as part of the broader reorganisation currently under way.

  • Ensuring a sound relationship with the association’s governance: you ensure the link between the Board of Directors and the executive, attend Bureau and Board meetings and key events in the life of the association, and present the association’s achievements each year.
  • Uniting the management team: you lead the Executive Committee, foster collective decision-making and support the development of its members.
  • Setting the strategic direction: you propose to the Board a multi-year action plan in line with the strategic orientations, steer its implementation and ensure that the association’s ambitions match its resources.
  • Securing the main financial balances: you ensure the soundness and viability of the association’s economic model, steer its multi-year financial trajectory and monitor overall cash stability.
  • Leading the transformation: you carry through the organisational transformation undertaken with the teams, building on the work already done and adjusting it where necessary.
  • Representing Action contre la Faim: you speak on behalf of the association to partners, donors, the media and international organisations.
  • Embodying ACF France within the international network: you coordinate ACF France’s action with the other members of the network and ensure respect for shared values and principles, the consistency of operations, communication and advocacy, and ACF’s reputation.
  • Caring for the collective: attentive to people, you foster a management culture based on empowerment and trust in teams. You sustain engagement and positive collective momentum, including remotely, and conduct quality social dialogue with staff representative bodies.
  • Ensuring security and compliance: you manage crises, make final decisions on safety and security matters, and bear legal responsibility for the organisation.

Your profile

You have solid NGO experience, partly gained in the field. You have led a large-scale entity as General Director or Country Director, and have worked within an association in France. Experience with Action contre la Faim would be an asset.

You have hands-on experience of how associations operate in France, in particular the division of roles and responsibilities between the President, the Treasurer and the Board of Directors, as well as the General Director’s interactions with them and with staff representative bodies.

Recognised for your strategic vision and ability to anticipate, you analyse geopolitical developments and their impact on humanitarian action.

You have already led a profound organisational transformation and supported teams through change.

A unifying leader, you foster a management culture based on empowerment. You know how to lead a management team, make decisions collectively and take a firm decision when the situation requires it, with courage, attentiveness and empathy.

You communicate with ease, both internally and externally, including with the media.

Resilient, humble and optimistic, you show stamina and perseverance.

You are fully fluent in French and English, both spoken and written.
